Domestic Workers Bill of Rights signed in NYC
Domestic Workers United prodded lawmakers and Governor David Paterson to sign the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights into law. Today, flanked by politicians and activists, including members of DWU, Paterson put pen to paper at Harlem’s Dwyer Cultural Center.
The law falls short in many respects (no paid sick days for one thing), but it does guarantee that nannies, caregivers, housekeepers, maids, and other household workers get the minimum wage, overtime, and one day of rest every seven days.
